MuchMusic
As the number 4 online destination with 85 million monthly visitors, YouTube is the go to source for answering the “What do you want to watch?” question. The other night I was searching around and was curious to see if any of the TV shows I’d produced had somehow, ended up on the site. Now, I haven’t worked in Toronto or at MuchMusic for almost a decade, well before YouTube’s launch, so I’m not certain how they may have been uploaded. Nevertheless, I found a few and posted them. It’s MuchMusic living up to its intentions –  live, and just a little loose. The No Doubt performance is great, as is the Noel Gallagher acoustic version of Wonderwall – that performance revealed to me at the time who the true talent was in Oasis. Noel did an ID after that performance – “I’m cold, I’m hungry and I want to go home” he said – ever the curmudgeon. Sook-Yin handled Radiohead with aplomb in ‘97. And the look on Billy Corgan’s (Smashing Pumpkins) face at the site of the Naked Mole Rats is priceless. I wish come of the Beck, Neil Young, Eminem, Aerosmith, David Bowie, Erykah Badu, Aerosmith, Iggy Pop, Michael Hutchence and INXS, Sinead O’Connor, Fugees, and countless other moments were also out there. I’m sure, over time, there won’t be much Much that isn’t available!
